COVID: EXposure Criteria

Current guidance based on community exposure, for people exposed to people with known or suspected COVID-19 or possible COVID-19

 What counts as close contact?

  • You were within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more
  • You provided care at home to someone who is sick with COVID-19
  • You had direct physical contact with the person (hugged or kissed them)
  • You shared eating or drinking utensils
  • They sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets on you

How long does it take to experience coronavirus disease symptoms after exposure?

  • Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after you were exposed to COVID-19.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

  • Sore throat, cough, fever, runny nose, headache, extreme fatigue, diarrhea, loss of appetite, loss of smell and/or taste, nausea, body aches, chest pain, etc…

What is the average recovery time for the coronavirus disease?

Using available preliminary data, the median time from onset to clinical recovery for mild cases is approximately 2 weeks and is 3-6 weeks for patients with severe or critical disease.
